Tests for the presence of antibodies to detect if a person has been infected with the herpes simplex virus.
Finger-Stick Sample
The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends herpes testing for people who have genital symptoms to confirm if they have it. Testing for the viruses that cause genital and oral herpes are important if you have signs and symptoms of a herpes infection. The incubation period for herpes is 2 to 12 days, which means that the best time to get tested for the herpes virus — if you haven’t had an initial outbreak — is after 12 days.
Collect your specimen in the morning and drop it in the mail, on the same day, using the pre-paid envelope we provide in your test kit.
This Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV) blood test will screen for if you have been exposed to the herpes virus.
Symptoms may include sores and blisters at the affected site.
Cold sores:
Oral herpes causes tiny, fluid-filled lesions called cold sores or fever blisters, which can recur.
Genital herpes:
Pain, itching, and small sores appear first. They form ulcers and scabs. After initial infection, genital herpes lies dormant in the body.
People may experience:
Pain areas: in the penis or vagina
Pain circumstances: can occur during urination
Also common: genital sores, sensation of pins and needles, or skin rash
